This morning we got up and leisurely got ready to leave. We got out of Cheyenne about 1pm and headed for Mt. Rushmore. It was only a 4 1/2 hour drive, but it seemed to take forever. We got to Custer, SD and decided to stop for dinner before heading up the mountain. While eating it suddenly was black outside and pouring down rain. Lots of lightning and hail too. I wasn't sure it was going to be any fun to head to Mt. Rushmore, at this point you are only about 30 mins away. We made the trip and it turned out beautiful. In fact the sky cleared up and the sun was in our eyes until it fell behind the mountain. The faces on the mountain, as Cameron named them when he was 2, were amazing. Cameron and I had been before with my parents, but he wasn't old enough to really remember.
One of our very few pictures together. I should really get out from behind the camera more!
I love these kids!
As we were trying to leave there seemed to be a commotion. Eric J. Holder, the US Attorney General, was visiting the monument. The secret service was crazy! They kept a circle around him and if he stopped we all stopped. Later that night we found out the reason the Marriott we wanted was all booked up is because he was there too!
